Pablo, Scooter, Gunner Lee and Leyla MariHello,

My name is Patricia. My husband and I have had pets since we were very young and learned to appreciate the love and companionship that they give us. Unfortunately, some our pets' lives were cut short. Later on we learned that nutrition had to do a lot with their health. Pablo, our Boxer, died late 2004 of a congenital disease called Boxer Cardiomyopathy, which is a serious disease in which the heart muscle becomes inflamed and doesn't work as well as it should. Scooter, a Border Collie Mix, died a month later of some sort of colon or stomach cancer. Both Pablo and Scooter gave us the best of their lives and we are grateful for it. With their passing away we learned more about nutrition and how to maintain our pets in good health.

Gunner Lee, our Flat-Coated Retriever, and Leyla Marie, our Black Labrador RetrieverLast year we adopted two puppies, each under different circumstances. Gunner Lee, a Flat Coated Retriever, and Leyla Marie, a Black Labrador Retriever, are two healthy dogs. We have learned how to feed them vegetables and fruit (only as treats) and to select the best food for them. Both Gunner and Leyla are full of energy and love to play, go to the dog park to catch ball, play Frisbee, or socialize with other dogs. Gunner is a little finicky with food, but he loves peas and green beans.  Leyla loves fruit, especially cantaloupe and apples.

Tasher DoodlesWe also have Tasher, a 18-year old short haired cat. Tasher has been living with my husband since his late teens and Tasher was just a two week old kitten, who was rescued after his Mom died. Even though he is very old, he is still very active and loves to play and let Gunner and Leyla know that he is the boss in the house, (even though he is an 9-pound kitty). He is very picky with his food, especially lately. He loves wet food, and it has to be chicken. We found one that he really likes. This pet food brand is called Wellness for Cats.Wellness Cat - Chicken 5.5 oz. Can They really strive for premium, quality, natural pet food with no fillers. They have both wet and dry food for dogs and cats. Tasher really likes it and it has made him very active lately. Tasher has even gotten more playful with us and our other kitty.

In 2006, another cat "adopted us". We named him Meskee, but he responds mostly to Kit-Kitty. He showed New kitty - Kit-kitty - aka Meskeeup in our chicken coop, and when we found out that he was not a threat to the chickens, we started feeding him. Soon enough he was actually protecting our fowl pets. Being an outdoors cat, he got in a couple of scaffolds, at which point we decided to take him to the Vet and get him better and give him the necessary vaccines, vet checks, etc. Slowly, Tasher warmed up to the idea of a new cat, and Kit-Kitty became part of our family. He is a very social cat that loves to be around people, and loves dogs as well. He still gets to go outside everyday, and enjoys playing with Tasher every night.

We also adopted an English Budgie. His name is Blue Blue. An English budgie is a kind of hybrid parakeet. In the next few months after we got him, we adopted 2 more budgies, and in 2007, another one just landed in our yard, and then adopted another companion for the last one. Their names are Sylar, Tequila, Ruby, and Apollo. The main difference between an English budgie and a regular budgie or parrakeet are the size. The English one tends to be bigger. Also, if you want to teach them to talk, it is recommended that you get males ones. The males learn how to speak faster and louder.

We also have a planted fish tank, which is a fish tank with live plants. Besides that, we have 11 chickens, which give us fresh eggs every day. Among the different breeds of chickens that we own, we have Auracanas, Rhode Island Reds, Australopes, Buff Orpingtons, Barred Rocks, Red Sex-Links.
